Larry has compiled an enormous assortment of reference materials, including photos of live animals. His trips to Africa and other parts of the world have benefited him as well as his clients, by allowing him to achieve anatomical accuracy. Larry's sculpting abilities allow him to take photographs, measurements,
death masks, skeletal parts, and then transform them into a lifelike mannequin of
any animal. He has had the privilege to sculpt for numerous taxidermy
supply companies. With this asset there is no limit to what we can achieve
for our client in an original and accurate mount. We enjoy the challenge
of creating custom pieces and bases our client can be proud of. We can assist in getting your foreign shipment cleared through U.S. Customs and U.S. Fish and Wildlife, safe and efficiently, by using a broker. A broker is an agent that will help with the clearing of your trophies. When your trophies are routed and destined for the U.S., they will be routed through a broker. When the trophies arrive in the states at the airport, the airport will notify the broker in which your trophies are consigned. In Atlanta (our closest port of entry), the broker that we use is: Coppersmith, Inc. If your trophies are routed through another port, we can assist
you also. There are brokers available in most major states. In choosing your taxidermist, much thought and care should be taken. It is probably one of the most important aspects of your hunt. Whether you are contacting us before, during or after your hunt, we are available to assist you. You have made a considerable investment of time, effort and money to collect your trophies. At American Sportsman our commitment is to give you the best quality and creativity possible. American Sportsman is dedicated to giving the client a personalized service. We take the extra effort to achieve accuracy and realism. We work with our clients on an individual basis to meet their needs and expectations. Give us plenty of time to complete your mount(s). The taxidermy process may appear to be slow, but in fact it is so complicated that it is not wise to rush. Every mount, whether large or small, receives the same meticulous attention to detail. This is what makes each trophy a work of art. The best work requires time, skill and talent. The time you spend waiting for your trophies is well worth it. American Sportsman is not a "production" oriented shop. This is to say, we do not take a generic form and attach a skin to it as quickly as possible. Every trophy we mount is individually designed and sculpted to reflect anatomy accuracy and genuine wildlife behavior. Each piece is designed to enhance the animal's best features. Each base that is created for each trophy is as realistic as the mount itself. These things take time and require a creative touch. We at American Sportsman enjoy providing that extra touch for the client. After all, we want you to be pleased with your finished mounts and want them to offer a lifetime of pleasure for you.

Trophy Room Design
There are several things that need to be considered when planning your trophy
room. You will need to put a lot of thought into the room itself.
Things that need to be considered: Hanging, arranging, designing, etc. the display of your trophies can be as simple or elaborate as the client wants. The sky is the limit with a little imagination and help you can achieve the look and arrangement that is exactly your style.
There are several variations and types of mounts to choose from. We have listed many of them below. There are many options available. Shoulder Mount: Include the shoulders, neck and head of the specimen. These usually hang on the wall. However, the shoulder mount can also be posed into more dramatic pose such as a pedestal mount. This allows the trophy to be displayed on a pedestal type base or tabletop.
Additional 35% to the shoulder mount cost. *Bases are custom built to
suit the animal & the client. Bases are additional. They can be a
custom base built base out of a specific type of wood or they can be
made out of natural materials such as driftwood, etc. Whatever
compliments the clients' trophy room.
This is another option for mounting. Such as zebra, bear, and others. These can be either will the head flat or with it mounted. Depending on the preference on the client.
European Mounts:
This is when the complete skull is cleaned and bleached and displayed by placing it on a plaque wall.
This
is another option available for you to display your miscellaneous
trophy skins and parts. These are items such as footstools, trash cans,
umbrella stands, fly swatters, ice buckets, ashtrays, etc.
Also, your tanned buckskins can be made into pillows, throws, or rugs.
